Tucked inside the Yellow Bungalow on Colonial Boulevard is the most coziest bookstore that feels like so much more than books.
Step inside Blinking Owl Books and you’ll immediately feel the warmth, the intention, the sense that this space was built with real care for the people walking through its doors.
What To Expect When You Walk In
I had the pleasure of speaking with owner Lucy, who somehow managed to organize books, greet customers, and run checkout all at the same time. She gave me a tour of the place, and it was clear that the care she puts into the shop is evident in every corner.
The bookstore is beautiful. Organized, unique, and intentional, it feels elevated without being intimidating and cozy without feeling cramped.
The collection ranges from used books to new releases and modern titles, with a selection that feels thoughtfully curated and refreshingly inclusive. It’s a mix of voices, genres, and perspectives that feels personally chosen rather than mass distributed.
But the books are just the beginning..
What I Found
Beyond the shelves, Blinking Owl carries unique merch, witchy wares, modern tarot decks, fun stickers, and totes you’ll actually use. It’s the kind of place where you come in for one book and somehow leave with three extra things you didn’t know you needed.
There were teas, locally made jewelry, herbs, and products from other small business owners throughout the shop, adding even more personality to the space.
I’ve also attended one of their open mic nights before, and I highly recommend it. The environment felt welcoming and beginner-friendly in a way that’s hard to find in creative spaces.
More Than A Bookstore
Blinking Owl is a proudly queer, veteran, and women-owned independent bookstore, and that identity naturally shows up in the way the space operates.
Their community-centered events calendar includes open mic nights, book clubs, intimate writing workshops, and other gatherings designed to bring people and passions together.
Even the small details reflect that same level of care: free period supplies in the bathrooms, comfortable seating areas, and an atmosphere that genuinely feels welcoming.
